How did you learn to play chess?

Did your parents teach you how to play? Did you learn alone? Did you learn on the internet or in books?
My father teacht me. I was only interested in beating my sister and my father but they beated me the whole time. A few years later I played chess so I didn't had to join the theatre. Then I was more and more interested and joined a club. I joined chess websites and I thougt I am good but I was really bad. When Corona was coming I came to Lichess, had online training and improved a lot. Not the full story but the most.
My parents taught me how to play chess. Well, I was not really good at playing chess but I wanted to improve my abilities, so I joined a club where I got a better understanding for the diverse structures, openings, endgames and so on. I was elated of the knowledge some people had. They motivated me to keep going no matter how often I lose. Lichess helped me a lot as well. Thanks to Lichess I have the opportunity to play games against partly much stronger opponents.
Well, when I was a kid my dad (I believe - ironic to me now, as we don't get along and I've not spoken to him since I was a teenager.) taught me how the pieces move, essentially (you know, the absolute basics needed to play a really casual game) and I was in an elementary school (American - would be probably called primary school to you British English users) for one year when I was 10-11 years old (very casual club of kids and as far as I know it only lasted that one year).

Then a year or so back I bought a book called "how to beat anyone at chess" that's basic but solid and a good intro to basic strategy, etc. That book sat on my shelf a while and about 3 months ago I found Lichess, finally read the book I mentioned above, and other than that book I'd say I'm mainly learning by playing and doing some of the lessons on Lichess, that and puzzles.
