I set sounds to Standard. I can hear alert sound only when the game starts. Not always when it is my move. When I changed sounds to Piano, there is some sound played (not the piano), when it is my move and different sound when a piece is taken.
The other sets of sounds (instead of Standart) work ok, but I am unable to play without the Standard sound.
Try clearing your cache perhaps? It does seem to be a bit iffy when you change the sound and I had to mess around with it a couple of times to get it to work with a different theme.
At times the sound would also stop working all together, seemingly when a sound gets interrupted mid-way and then hangs yet the browser keeps using the hung device reference though it's most likely a browser issue in which case there might not really be anything the dev's can do about it :P

Still doesn't work. But only the only one sound. I can hear sound when I get check or when the game ends. It works in different browser, so it is Firefox issue
