Good luck!

Do not find that the greeting "Good luck!" at the start of the game is inconsistent and outrageous for a chess player who wants to win by skill, and not by luck?
It's a figure of speech, sort of like when you say good game while you know it was full of mistakes and blunders.
Yes, definitely. There is no such a thing as luck in chess, unless you don't want to define as 'luck' your opponent's blunders. So, wishing your opponent luck is just wishing yourself making mistakes.

"sort of like when you say good game"
No, it's not the same thing. 'Good game' is just polite, while 'good luck' is a nonsense, an oxymoron. It's an offense to the very nature of the game of chess.
I usually spend the time to type, "Hi, let's have a good game!"
I don't type anything because my time to play the first move may run out.
I say "good luck" as a backhanded compliment - in my mind I think "yeah, you will only beat me by luck, so you are going to need it"
Oh man, if you're playing ultrabullet, 90% of the time it will depend on luck
The “luck” in chess is hoping your brain will see that the square is defended and you shouldn’t move your queen there

That's it, just like you say: backended compliment. Hypocrisy. Definitely not fair play.

And all the people talking about luck in any game of chess, you don't know what luck means. Bad luck is when you play and there is an earthquake during the game to distract you. It must be an *external* unpredictable factor to be called luck.

In chess, you win or lose only upon your ability and your opponent's. That's the beauty and the nobility of the game of chess, its very essence. Stop talking about luck, there is no such a thing here.
