Suggestion: Maximum 1 minute per move in tournaments

In tournaments you have to make the first move before 15 seconds.

I also think there should be a rule in tournaments that you can not spend more than 1 minute for each move.

This will prevent players from deliberately prolonging a game in order to prevent the opponent from getting a new game in the tournament.

I had to wait 4 minutes for a new game in a tournament today because my opponent decided to spend the rest of his time in the game in stead of resigning. Some players seem to think this is fun.

A maximum of 1 minute per move would limit the opportunity to prolong the game. After one minute on a move the game should be automatically lost.

Players who support this suggestion, please write a reply. Thanks in advance.

I disagree. This would punish those who have the time available and are taking it to work out their best move in what may be a tricky position. If you have more than 1 min on the clock then they should be allowed to use it. Those using it to deliberately prolong a lost game should just be reported for unsportsmanship.
The time for the first move in a 960 tournament should be at least 30 sec. There is lag when a new game starts + it's 960 game you have to think 4-5 sec before move.
Although I think this is a good idea, it should be adjusted to accommodate the tournament's time controls, as well as far into the game a game is, and who is in control.
I don't think this is sensible.

If I've got a 3 minute time advantage over my opponent in a 5 minute game and I'm looking for a mate, I want to be able to use the time I've earned to find it. Not be panicking that I'll throw the entire game if I think for a few seconds too long.
Bad idea to control how many minutes you can use of your time control, you should use whatever you want.
However make sense of punishing the unfair players, who regularly and deliberately delay others, maybe after a few warnings, they should be banning from tournaments for a period of time.
To MadHatMan: I agree that sometimes you want to spend some time in a tricky position. In this respect it is good that there are no time restrictions per move. But the players who let the clock run down when their opponent has mate in 1 are misusing this.

So I think a balance should be found. 1 minute is enough in most positions.

Simply reporting players for bad sportsmanship is of course an alternative, but I doubt that the administrators have time to check these reports and ban players. So I think time restriction per move is the only realistic way to put an end to this kind of unsportsmanship.

Please note that I only suggest it for tournaments, not for single games.
@Lat5. It's even less fair for tournaments to limit 1min per move than for regular games. Saying 1 minute is enough for most positions is admitting you think 1 minute isn't enough for all positions. So you are admitting the drawback of your own argument.
MadhHatMan: Yes, I have no problem admitting there is a drawback. I just think the positive side of the argument is stronger than the drawback.
There is not positive side.
Should be removed any time limit.
You start to play 10 min game, and you play or wait 10 min.
If you don't want to wait then play 1 min mindless games.

Goodluck!
