This is why i prefer Swiss-System for Chess-Tourneys.....

Hello friends. I enjoyed it to play this Hourly-Rapid-Arena. Link here: lichess.org/tournament/cvXYAGfO
But i think Lichess-Tourneys have a great weakness with working out the winners - my result in this tourney is 7/7. I won all my games, my result is 6th place. My opinion is this is not correct - the problem is the berserk-mode and the possibility that not all players have the same number of games. I am played very many tourneys at Playchess-Server in the past. This tourneys are working with swiss-system and with a fix time-control. In a 9-round-swiss-tourney you normally have the chance to make a late-join until round 3 if you are too late. Berserking-mode leads to a quicker playing than necessary - the most important for the ranking seems not to win most of your games, the number of played games is equal in importance. For me - i hate berserk. In a rapid-tourney i want to play a 10+0 game and not a 5+0 - in a blitz-tourney i want to play for example a 5+0 and not a 2,5+0 (what is close to bullet) - and the games are much weaker when you play so fast. Maybe is it possible for the Lichess-Admins to integrate the possibility for swiss-tourneys in the software I think it would be a great profit for the server. Thank you very much!
The advantages to the way it currently is are that:

- You don't have to wait for everyone to finish a round before you start the next game. That is particularly useful at slower time controls like rapid.
- The berserk feature acts as a kind of handicap if higher rated players use it particularly when paired against a lower rated player.
- Easier to come and go as you please

Most of the field just plays for fun and will come and go as they please. You do often get rating mismatches in both forms, especially in the earlier rounds.

If you're playing to have fun, and not to win the tournament, which is the case for the majority of players, which format do you think suits you better?
There were Swiss tournaments but less and less people joined them and Lichess supressed them. I don't think that they'll add them again
How about, if you want to play 5 0 you join a 10 0 and berserk them all :-)
I love berserk when it's my opponent who does it. I never go berserk. I join tourneys just hoping for opponents berserks.
I agree with you Grizzly1000. Unfortunately, they seem to have made their mind up here to not treat tournaments seriously at all. It's one of the main reasons I almost never play here anymore.
There is a setting to disable "Go berserk" for new tournaments and as gbtami points out, there is an issue to introduce other tournament modes (such as knockout; and if we have knockout, adding Swiss might be a small code change).
I find it sad the way not having what is literally a basic feature of every other website is continually justified by people here, honestly. Swiss tournaments and chess have gone hand in hand for literally over a century, and I can't even think of a decently popular place to play chess, live or online, where you can't play swiss tournaments except here. It feels exactly like trying to justify not having castling to me. It doesn't matter if you can justify not having it - it's part of chess.
Once again, what is the problem with joining a 10 0 tourn and go berserk all the time if you want to play 5 0? Are you just having fun having the problem or do you actually want to solve it?
