Hello dear Lichess members,
unfortunately, it seems as though the lag, as displayed by the Lichess site, is not quite accurate. Indeed, it seems to take some time until the moves of my opponent appear on my screen, as I observed when comparing the real game I played to the real time playback. I found out about this when my opponent berserked me and seemed to take some time for the first few moves, whereas in retrospect I saw how he blitzed them out (the game is here: lichess.org/oxuuazWes9KG).
I am still glad that Lichess exists and I find it a really good website, but I'll never achieve a good rating if the lag is such that it renders me partly uncompetitive. Also, as can be seen from the game I was refering to, I have to choose "safe" strategies over complicated variations (although obviously I missed all the sacrifices on e6, as did my opponent), so that I can't practice my skills in complicated variations so well.
If it turns out that there is a developer who cares about this issue, I'll gladly share a screen recording.
