Yes, it is exactly equivalent to the infinite sum: 1 - (1/3) + (1/5) - (1/7) + …., where the terms are the reciprocals of the odd positive integers, and they alternate between addition and subtraction. This series is called the Leibnitz formula, and it converges to pi.
