Yes, especially in the context of chess (and arguments). I thought about this after posting; I guess I only qualified the statement as a joke. (Although “that one guy” may not be an enemy, as such.) 🤷♂️
On that note: I am grateful for contrast. Without Darkness, there could be no Light; without Down, no Up; etc. And chess certainly makes use of such contrasts. Which makes it a microcosm of our universe, itself; as it were a distillation of the fundamental framework of Reality. . . . Which is just one of many reasons I am also grateful for chess. 🙂

Regarding the concept of gratitude, “grating” is what first comes to my mind. I’ve seen it used and abused far too much I think. But more importantly, I don’t require abstract assistance in the appreciation of a beautiful old tree, the sunlight, the wind, the birds and the clouds. Or the delicious potato I just cooked in the oven and ate with some mayo and ketchup. I can manage that just fine on my own. And I honestly don’t think I need to be telling anybody about such experiences on the internet. This concludes my personal assessment of the concept of gratitude. May it serve you very well.
