We all wrote them. Because we had to. But now what's the point? Before the internet information had a limit. But now you could write 5000000 words on anything. Doesn't that leave the essay format flawed? An essay is a truncation of information.

Essays do have a point when trying to communicate large amounts of information.
I believe the purpose of an essay is to demonstrate our ability to extract the most crucial information from a larger body of work,organize it in a logically consistent format,draw valid conclusions from that format and show that we actually understand the work in question.
It's real value may be in the development of organizational skills.
