Final solution to the time waster problem.

If the engine detects your opponent is down 10 and in check, if they take more than 2 minutes to make a move then you can claim victory.

Thoughts?
that is not efficient for chess players that are taking their time seriously. You cant take their privilege to use their time and think what king they will move or what piece they will move to. Also its getting rid of the come back scenario.. surely not all of us can do it that when the opponent is losing and we can win it. Sometimes it can happen as a comeback

Why is my CAPTCHA always bishop takes pawn on f7 and mate haha lol
Surely anybody taking their time seriously would resign as soon as they are down a minor piece, never mind down 10 pawns. But then again I am a beginner so I don't know anything. All I am aware of is people in unwinnable games making you wait 15 minutes when they only have legal king moves.
It is up to the player how long he will think. In seemingly hopeless situations there may be a hidden way to save it.
The better solutions to time wasting are
A) play with increment: he cannot waste the increment
B) lichess should prohibit to start a new game when an unfinished game is still in progress
You would be surprised at the amount of times people come back from -10 evaluations. Another issue is the server resources to analyzing every single ongoing game .

"Surely anybody taking their time seriously would resign as soon as they are down a minor piece"
Uhmm no.. there is an opening that will sacrifice a bishop, knight and two pawns and yet they are winning in such cases. but down with 10 pawns?! that is logically impossible my friend hahahhaa lol.. Each side has only 8 pawns. But if you are saying points for the pieces then its good :)

Anyways for making you wait in 15 minutes while you are totally winning is good. That is life. You need to be patient. Once the game is finish you can report him. This is online chess bro. Any stupid thing to do is available. But when in the real world. Ohh no my friend, in the PHI we will trash talk you like crazy and demoralize you. That is how chess manila players do. And that is how they are top contender for street fight :0

Just wait and be patient :) There is no rush to kill the king in his mind :)

He is making you wait because his ego is destroyed.. you should be laughing at him and triumph it :)

Anyways my CAPTCHA is still the same why lichess? hahahaha
I agree on both sides (since I'm swiss ;))
I totally see the "time waster problem" as a real and very annoying problem. I actually stopped paying games with high increment because I also run into a "time waster". Which imho is especially with increment very annoying.
However, I don't see your solution as feasable. For example if the player who is down 10 has still a lot of time and the opponent nearly run out of time. Then it is a reasonable strategy to try to run the opponent into timeout or stalemate with clever moves who require some thinking time. At least on my level where a lot of mistakes happen. ;)
Thats also the reason why I often do not resign even if I lost a minor piece or even a rook or queen.
@Bonifides Yes I meant 10 pieces sorry, its no secret I am new. By seriously, I thought we meant we are talking about good players. I myself play to win but rarely resign as my opponents (and I) regularly blunder queens going for mates in the mid game.

I love your outlook on the time wasters, its almost like ragequitters in fighting games, but you don't have to wait 15 minutes though.

@Sazed I imagine it could simply be coded for the server to only analyse games during check if no move has been made for 2 minutes? Then it wouldn't occur too often.

To everyone else, yes maybe sometimes 2 minutes wouldn't be enough to analyse a position correctly even if there was only a small chance of a stalemate or something. In that case, what do you think a reasonable timescale for classic games would be?
@absolutelygarbage

Well that is life just wait for them to run out of time lol I dont know what to say but hear me out.

Classical games are meant for slow with high chess strategy going on. Heck even I played a 30 min game and we both actually so close to lose on time. Why? because it really is a good game to play.

If you want a slow game like classical then play a correspondence matches. Or you can adjust your setting with higher rated players. Even you lose it doesnt matter. As long as you have fun and learning something :)

Lets just call it chess ethics in online games :) Besides, im not angry at time wasters. I just laugh with a devil face. More like this guy smiling because he know he will win and there is no one gonna stop him.
