Lichess Bans Keyboard

My idea was to make keyboard an official lichess input method. That means that you can go to your settings and enable keyboard. That would mean that there is no extension anymore.

Then you could go ahead and force players to turn that setting off if they want to join a tournament. It could look like this: imgur.com/a/3CtXUfZ
For God's sake, why turn it off if everyone can use it?

How about turning lag compensation off on fast game controls since it's not available to both sides and easily dominates hyper & bullet games. Lag wins every single time and without any option.-

Hacking in games is normally not allowed too and it's often super easy to install hacks. So that's kinda a bad argument. They should officially split speed chess to mouse/keyboard in my view because both are input methods with a huge community. Playing mouse vs. keyboard makes no sense.

Lag compensation is a good thing when both players with same connection play against each other. E.g. two asian players who wants to play ultra. They would not be able to play without lag compensation. Obviously, it does not make any sense to match players with different pings because then it's kinda weird for both sides. Literally every realtime game (e.g. shooters) have different servers in different countries to prevent that people are lagging. But Lichess won't do this pretty sure.

Only solution would be to start regional tournaments (EU arena, Asia, NA, Oceania ...) which would be weird because I'm pretty sure that there wouldn't be enough players.

That's a pretty good point, and it's interesting to look at it from that perspective. With the same arguments I used, you could defend aimbots and even engine use. Everyone can play chess on lichess with an engine, but that doesn't make it fair. I think there's two things that need to be evaluated when considering banning something

1. Does that thing still require own skill?

I would say engine use, aimbots and doping require no skill at all, they automatically lift you up to a god-like level (at least I think so, I've never used any of those)

2. Does that thing overall bring the game forward or backward?

I think engines, aimbots and doping defeat the whole purpose of the game. I wouldn't say the same thing about keyboard. I've argued in many other instances, that the purpose of ultrabullet shouldn't be to measure who is quicker with mouse, but who can think faster. Using keyboard input does not alter your ability to think fast.

But I also see the point in arguing that the purpose of ultrabullet IS being quick with mouse. I would personally find that boring, but it seems that there is a divide between players and not everyone agrees.
Jeeez, just make some icon that will show that this user play with keyboard and other player will choose - play with him or not. If lichess can track if user use keyboard then this is not a problem.
Or don't make icon but make checkbox in settings "play with keyboard users" and same checkbox "allow keyboard" setting in tournament settings same like berserk setting and everyone will be happy.
Or make both.

Why it is needed to ruin everything?
Using kb for move entry seems completely fair.

Allowing multiple premoves, when the standard interface does not provide that functionality, is not fair. Lots of us use mobile devices for convenience or out of necessity and don't have the option of multiple premoves. Either make it standard or make it go away.

Also, lichess lag compensation sucks. This should be talked about incessantly until it is fixed.
