No mistakes allowed in Puzzle Streak ?

Hey guys,

I think it would be great to have a Puzzle streak version where you are allowed 2 or 3 mistakes. It would allow one to go further into the streak and make it more interesting overall.

Having to start back from scratch to the simple puzzles, after just one mistake, is not so great in my opinion.

my 2 cents!
I don't mean to sound rude, but when you go to the sauna you don't complain that it is hot in there. It is expected to be.

The whole idea of a Streak is, to see how far you can get without a mistake.

You can skip one puzzle per streak as far as I know, but that's it. And anything more than that would take the fun out of it IMO.

Compare it with video games... those that are very easy and forgiving of mistakes are fun for a short while, but get boring quickly, while the real hard ones will have you coming back time and again for yet another try.

The frustration you feel after messing it up is exactly the driving force that makes you want to try again. At least it is that way for me.

Didn't mean for this to sound offensive... I totally respect if you feel differently about it. Just my opinion.

I totally get where you're coming from and why you, and probably many others, do prefer it this way.

But others might see things differently.
Which is why my suggestion is to ADD a puzzle streak variation where a couple mistakes are allowed, not to replace the current one. Both can coexist at the same time, in my opinion, and then people would use the variation they prefer. Everyone is happy.

For me, the interesting thing about puzzle streaks, as opposed to regular rated puzzles, is that the difficulty of the puzzles going crescendo, you get a wide variety of puzzle difficulties in one streak.
If you aren't allowed any mistakes, then the chances that you'll start from scratch over and over again and be stuck to the same puzzle difficulty (the simple ones) is much higher, as opposed to being allowed 2 or 3 mistakes where it will allow more people to go further and experience that wider variety of puzzles in one single streak that I was talking about.

There might be reasons why one another popular website uses this system and it works well. I think both systems are good and I only see benefits to allowing people to choose between those 2 rather than just have one single option.

my 2 cents!
If you're looking for more puzzle variety I encourage you to go to the puzzle dashboard>puzzle themes and choose some of the ones you are interested in. I like to open a few in different tabs. And I mainly do hardest (+600) as it boosts my rating by 50+ when I solve it, and only takes away 2 or 3 points if you make a mistake.
It would be easy to add a setting at the beginning of Puzzle Streak where you choose your number of lives for the game. I don't see any reason to not include a feature like that. There is no competition for Puzzle Streak, so it doesn't matter if we all have the same settings. Might as well let people set the game up in the way they find it most useful/fun.

Try chesscup.org Survival Rush. They integrate lichess puzzles and lichess puzzle ratings into their site and are also completely free

This would not work as if someone did 30 different settings e.g 1 mistake ,2,3, etc then Lichess would have to display all of that data on the players profile. This is impractical so I suggest having 4 settings: 0 mistakes, 3 mistakes, 5 mistakes, 10 mistakes. Not exactly those numbers but you get the idea.
