For what it's worth, I would then put Kasparov, Karpov, Morphy, Tal, So, Aronian, and Staunton (he came up with the awesome English Opening).

Question: Doesn't "favorite chess player of all time" refer to the actual player? Not their opening or achievements or playing style?

Personally, my favorite player of all time is someone I can identify with specifically because of their playing style, and OTB achievements.
For example, I do not agree with Tigran Petrosian's politics, or how he cooperated with the KGB, nor do I like his wife, but I love his play style and approach to prophylaxis/positional play.
I don't know why some people are excluding players from their list because they disagree with their off-board antics.
Fischer may have been an eccentric asshole off the board, and may be hated because he was opposed to the New World Order (and it's masters) but he never hurt anyone. He never committed a real crime, he was not a womanizer or alcoholic (think Alekhine) or heavy smoker (think Tal). He never abused anyone...
