I really want to change my name without losing all of my games! Is this possible?

In options you can change your name, but it says it is only for corrections of uppercase and lowercase letters in the username. Well I want a new username. Do I have to delete this account or is it possible to change the current one?
wow, you started playing blitz!! Hahahaha, nice! The username might fool some people, so I would personally keep it. But if you want to change it, I think the only way to do it is open up a new account and maybe import some of your games from this one.
@mysterious_expert haha no I just played blitz because I wanted to play with Funkmaus a little. This is not the reason for the username change, I just feel uncomfortable with the name now. But if I important the game, it won't show on my profile :( I want to keep my best rated victories, it is not about the games themselves.
Does the lichess database really not assign unique IDs (int or UUID) in the user table? That would solve the renaming problem once and forever …
#8 I believe Lichess would like to treat user names similar to names in real life chess games.
The names are connected to the games.
Sure it is possible to change, but at what price?

Chess isn't solitaire, it two people stuck in a political deathmatch, about who is the rightful monarch of this heavenly 64 squares real estate.

Imagine if someone like Magnus Carlsen legally changed his name to Magnus Peterson... That would create a huge confusion in the chess community.
Carlsen Vs Nakamura.
Now imagine the name change:
Peterson, previously known as Carlsen Vs Nakamura.

If all players could change their names on Lichess, it would just confuse a lot of people (past opponents/followers/spectators) but only satisfy one individual... Doesn't sound like a fair exchange.

That being said. @OnlyBetterNoBlitz perhaps you can ask Lichess for permission to open a new account, and close your old?
And you can write in your new account that you used to be "user name"

Edited: misspelling of Nakamura name. thanks to #10 for the correction.
