A good day for Indian chess, a truly sad day for world chess. There is not much hope that Ding manages to recover his former self by November and hit the Indian guy so hard that he never recovers. Judging by Ding's play in the last months it is more likely to be the other way around.
A very unstable situation here. With Carlsen having left and Gukesh having won the candidates tournament we are in a really unstable situation. Gukesh might win against Ding. And if he becomes World Champion, he would probably be beaten by Caruana or Nepo in the 2025 match... But however it goes, the situation is not very stable as they are suddenly like 10 potential World Champions currently. It's absurd.
If I were to name a few people who could definitely become a world champion, I would say Nepo, Fabi, Hikaru, Abdusattorov, maybe Pragg, maybe Vidit, maybe even Parham or Firouzja. It's pretty crazy to see how close it is. Tbh I didn't expect Gukesh to win until the final round.
