They're a light yellow and impossible for my eyes to detect. Can this be a bugfix or enhancement in a future version of lichess?
Have you tried changing the "Board theme"? (click on your name in the upper right corner). I know it is not a definitive solution, but it may improve contrast for the time being.
Yes, some themes are better than others and I can sort of make out the highlighting. Thanks for the suggestion!
