Feature Request: Achievements

if we had achievement badges on our profile it would be great I think.

I would love this feature. Something similar to Steam. Hundreds of possible achievements, from "Capture your first piece!" to "Get to the #1 rank". Also all kind of silly ones. I always found amusing the achievements feature.

What are some interesting achievements you'd like to see?

I'd include...
- Checkmate via a Smothered Mate
- Checkmate via a Queen Sacrifice (non back rank)
- Checkmate via 3 Cascading Sacrifices
- Checkmate a player rated 300/500 points higher
- Win a game as White with each of White's first moves

(The sacrifices would need to be part of the engine-approved forced checkmate sequence)

- "Problem?" (Win a game playing the Bong Cloud)

- "Viking!" (play the Scandinavian 100 times)

- "Tea time" (play the London System 100 times)

- "..." Play 20 games the same day

I think this would be an amazing feature to add to this site. One of the problems with Lichess (for a casual player), is that outside of rating increase, there is very little to congratulate you as a chess player. This site heavily caters to elite players. As an average player, you will never get any trophy’s on your account. If you win a tournament, there will be nothing on your account to show for it.

One change that I’d really like (but I doubt that I’d see this happen) is to have some features that cater specifically to casual players (such as achievements, and trophy’s for winning UXXXX tournaments).

I personally will never be an elite player. It’s not my passion to be an elite player. However, I want to congratulate myself on chess improvement - I want to feel special when I win a tournament or accomplish something challenging in chess. It’s not much, but it is my own personal celebration. I just wish this site would celebrate the achievements of its’ amateur player base, rather than just catering towards the elite, as it does now.

I think it would be interesting, but I don't think you can have any based on rank or rating because it can inspire other people to cheat to get those achievements.

Signal boost... any distraction from ratings & leaderboards is a welcome distraction.

I can probably say this. This will never happen.
