Chess: A Friendly Game or Game of Rivalry

Why do chess lovers enjoy chess? Enjoy winning and hate losing. Many came to lichess to seek a friendly game but frustrated to learn their opponent... or Rival isn't friendly at all. The rival plays to Destroy him, won't reply to his greetings, won't say gg if the other player won.

How do you play and think of chess?
@ryan121 I think of chess as a fun game, where you learn a lot and improve every day. I am always cordial with my opponents, but I still take my games seriously.
There are many board games. The presence of the King and Queen makes the game of chess more intense. Checkmate means "The King is Dead". Many great chess players including Fischer says Chess is War. The goal of chess is crush your enemy. I gamble. So I never take my losses in chess emotionally because I didn't lose money :)
"Chess is a war over the board. The object is to crush the opponent’s mind.” – Bobby Fischer
I'm mainly here to have fun! Not to say I don't try to play my best each game but that I guess I don't take myself too seriously, you could say. Losing doesn't really bother me.
Had a club in the lobby area next to restaurant and bar. Could order food, drink beer, club members had friendships, fun while lasted. That's depends on who you are playing tho obviously.
Prefer a gentleman style honest game. Good luck to all
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is the best example for this question
For a person who literally asks what chess is
Rivalry with that from which we had played earlier but friendly with those from whom we are playing first time
