I saw that the lichess team changed all daily variants to 3+0, except chess960. I like playing chess960 and I would like it to be 3+0. I know that the reason is that it is 30 minutes longer than the other variants but I would like that change still...
960 is normal chess, should have a normal blitz tournament. (I'd even advocate for a rapid one, blitz inc., etc.)
The difference to the variants, regarding time, is that these tend to end earlier in average. So people prefer faster games, to keep the move rate interesting.
Also, in 960 you need more time for the opening. I've checked the database for many starting positions, and it's incredible that MOST players will (back-to-back) miss traps, checkmates, tactics, outstanding strategies, everything... just because they are used to blitzing out their first moves.
So, if you make the 960 arena superblitz, I think that just encourages people to keep using their opening-book patterns to blitz out moves, and we will have a huge 960 database of stupid opening statistics.
