Is it racist that white makes the first move in a game of chess?

Why would that be racist? Are you aware that black has advantages of its own by going last? Sure, statistically speaking white is more likely to win, but that may be more a result of the decisions that both players make while playing the game, as opposed to the extra turn white receives.

One advantage with being black is that you can see what white’s opening move is going to be. If you are a decent chess player, you will be able to know what the best options are for the first few moves that are played, since unlike middle game scenarios, there are only so many genuine moves that black can make in countering white’s play.
First move for white king is like get advantage as petahana...but at least white must to know how or when to play win or draw...
You want play win in losing position?how can you solve that problem?
The question itself maybe a racist one, unless you are not white...
As a signal it was a good idea that Magnus played against Giri and let Black have the first move. For this game with the intention to take a little action against racism a good idea. No less, but no more either.
I think white people should not try to defend things that are not really in question. White people should not asked silly questions what racism could be or not. They should listen what really makes lefe harder for not white people. They should try to understand what the real problem is. And then try to learn what they could change to refrain from racist behavior. This will be a very long process, cause racism is a very old problem. The majority of white people shows racist behavior and don't even know about it. This don't means that they are bad guys or stupid. Over many, many centuries this racist behavior was normal, accepted. So sadly it will take a little time to change this. No reason for us all not to try and do our best.
If we change the colors of the pieces on the chessboard we do nothing against racism. People would don't understand it. And maybe people would forget that there is many more to do against racism then to change the rules of a very old game.
I completely disagree with post #4.
There's the missing facts that it wasn't always white who moved first or that there's not always white on the board. Should we say the pool is racists because it's the white ball that pushes all the colored balls around.
Although I believe that there's a lot of people, in America, trying to keep the minorities from achieving anything, but by these same minorities always complaining about racism is racism itself.
It's not the rich, white man sneaking into their neighborhoods at night and destroying the place. If business weren't afraid to setup shop in these neighborhoods, maybe someone would improve the neignborhoods and bring a few jobs with them.
Just to travel the other tangent, there's nothing from stopping other blacks from achieving the GM title, with the exception of financial resources. So having only one black GM, AFAIAAO, isn't an example of direct racism, but more a reflection on the lack of devotion.
How do you figure that one? Have you met all white people to reach this conclusion? Of course you haven't. You are making a sweeping generalisation about white people with no evidence to back it up. I think it's you who doesn't know what they are talking about.
