Meaning of true friendship

We all have friends, but are we aware of the fact that what is true friendship? If you are reading this that means the question is for you.
Many of you might think what ridiculous question I am asking because of the fact that a true friend always help in our bad times but according to me a true friend always stay aside and leaves us to struggle with the situation to be more adaptable. You might think that a true friend is one who shows the right path to us but according to me a true friend is one who not only shows us the right path but according to me he/she also dare to stay aside with us holding our hand and spiritually guide us.

According to you, what is correct since I have given only some points but those who understands the concept will surely understand my forum. Thank you
