Maybe he moved without you knowing.

I have that style of thing happen occasionally as well, it shows their time nearly out I refresh because I think somethings up by the time I reconnect it says I lost on time. My time was high before I refreshed.
Yeah, it is probably that you lost connection to the server and so your move appeared to have been made on your device but the system didn't record it.
This is a problem I have had too.
A solution would be for the client to not show the move on the client's board until the server confirmed it. Or, if that slows the display of moves then to have a timer for a few seconds and if it isn't confirmed then the move gets taken back on the client side as not received.
I've even had times where it highlights neither players time, and neither moves until I refresh.
