The excitement

I can't wait to find out what these official lichess variant teams are in aid of. Membership does not seem to be a condition of entry for any tournaments so far.

Maybe there will be matches between teams of different variants? Swiss format, two games of Crazyhouse and two games of (for example) Racing Kings?

Or perhaps the plan is to allow people once again to play in official Crazyhouse tournaments whenever it suits them, rendering the Crazyhouse Underground redundant?

Que sera sera I guess...
Perhaps adding new variants would be great, but I saw @thibault’s post that no new variants will be added. However, if he was willing to add new variants, a great idea would be Crazyhouse960.

You can play that on chessvariants.training, and I believe pychess too.

Of course, I have seen PyChess before. I used to play on it quite often when I first saw its link, but nowadays I play it less often.
@Marlonc
Probably after the teams will have 1000 = 1500 members, Lichess will open the arenas hourly leaving each team to make its own schedule
from my point of view this will be very good
I don't mind changing my script that currently creates the Underground ZH hourly tournaments at the time slots when there are no official hourly tournaments to create those arenas every day associated to this team instead. However I see such thing as a temporary solution, because my hope still is Lichess were planning to do something like that anyway. But someone should give me API key so i can do that without being a team leader.
