Any new variant ideas???

Degradation Chess:

1. Play starts with K's and P's as usual, plus five amazons (R+B+N) where the N's, B's, and Q would be.

2. If an amazon moved at least three times and its last three moves do not include...
..a. an R-type move, it loses the ability to move as an R; it then acts as a cardinal (B+N) but is subject to further degradation.
..b. a B-type move, it loses the ability to move as a B; it then acts as a marshal (R+N) but is subject to further degradation.
..c. an N-type move, it loses the ability to move as an N; it then acts as a queen (R+B) but is subject to further degradation.
(For these purposes, captures are considered moves.)

3. Pawns promote to non-degraded amazons; castling is not allowed.

The variant is not playtested, but I suspect deciding whether, when, and how to degrade your amazons is a good strategical component of the game.
how about star chess, where the pieces represent stars and when a piece is captured, it is a black hole for 5 moves, then gets removed. A black hole immediately sucks in any piece adjacent to it, including the capturing piece.
both the king and queen are royal, and you have to capture or suck them. When they are captured or sucked in a black hole they make a supermassive black hole which sucks in anything one or two squares adjacent to it. If you capture a black hole, it makes an explosion similar to the one in atomic. For Supermassive ones if you it only works if you capture 3 times, and every time it causes an explosion, but the last time, it causes a BIG one. It blows up everything 3 squares adjacent to the explosion.
And the only pieces that are not a star are pawns. They are planets. If an enemy piece "captures" them, they orbit the capturing piece and switch sides.
