What is the appeal of GM Hikaru Nakamura?

Despite the fact that he surely is one of the greatest chess players ever, he started early as a streamer with Super-GM level.

Also during the corona pandemic in 2020 - and that has to be one of the main reason for his followers - he cooperated with the twitch streamer "xQc", who already had a lot of viewers, and tried to make chess more popular. People got interested and started to play more chess.

Hikaru is kind of the role model for online chess for new players.
He fits pretty well into the online sphere that appeals to fourteen-year-old boys
@bernkastelhues not sure what you mean. Are you thinking that most of his followers are teen boys? That would be interesting to see the statistics, but I would be surprised if the majority of his viewers are in that demographic...only because I'd be surprised if there are that many teen boys watching chess channels...

My son will be 14 years old within 2 weeks and likes to watch the streams of Nakamura. Myself as dad never watches so well possible that the biggest group of viewers are teenagers. They have too much free time.
