Thanks for the update. I suppose time will tell whether we see it again, and then we can further investigate.
I'm testing fine with speedtest but still getting reconnecting errors and can't play.
Does the browser console (F12) indicate any errors?
OK so I have an old laptop running Linux mint which Is encountering the same problem. I have rebooted my router and am still having this issue. As far as I can figure out my home network is somehow stopping me use lichess.

Extra text so Lichess doesn't delete my comment.

So i think this might be the problem although i have no idea what a websocket is.
lichess.site.min.js:23 WebSocket connection to 'wss://socket1.lichess.org/lobby/socket/v4?sri=y_PAEIc2ueVH' failed: WebSocket is closed before the connection is established.

Yeah, you're having a similar-sounding issue... somehow your computer fails to connect a secure websocket to that address. I don't know whether the connection is due to any or all of the following:
* something on the server
* something on the PC
* something in-between
Given that two people are reporting the same error, on multiple devices, it sounds like "something on the PC" is the least likely option. I have filed an issue: github.com/ornicar/lila/issues/6236

Thank you for all your help.
I connected a laptop straight to my modem: no problem
I got out an old Linksys W54G: no problem
Through my Netgear R7000: problem
Factory reset the Netgear R7000: still problem

Dang, I was afraid that the worst-case scenario was true. I'm guessing either there's a DNS problem (although I think you'd see a different error message) or a security... something... which is preventing a websocket port from connecting.
I really don't want to "pass the buck" on the R7000 issue but I don't know what to suggest either. Out of desparation... can you see the same issue on lichess.dev ?
