About me
Playing experience
Winner of North American Open (2x), Chicago Open, National Open, American Open, and many others across the US.
Teaching experience
I've worked with a broad range of levels, from novice to GM. I worked with GM Sam Shankland as a youth, and currently my strongest student is GM Awonder Liang.
Other experiences
I've had a lot of experience doing chess commentary for the St. Louis Chess Club and numerous others. I currently do commentary regularly on twitch (twitch.tv/jefriedel).
Best skills
I was taught largely by intensive game analysis, and that's usually the main focus of my teaching. On the other hand, I am quite flexible with my teaching style, and readily take specific requests from my students. I also specialize in teaching endgames.
Teaching methodology
Unless there is a specific request, I generally start by going over recently played games, preferably at longer time controls. From there on I branch out to working on specific areas of need.
