WIM Yunshan Li

My name is Yunshan Li, I am a 21 years old Woman International Master with a current FIDE rating of 2294 and CFC rating of 2411, ranking top 1 among Canadian female players. During the summer I will be in China, but the rest of the time I stay in Canada to pursue my bachelor's degree in psychology & anthropology at the University of Toronto.

我叫李芸杉，是一名21岁的女子国际大师，目前国际等级分为2294，CFC等级分为2411，在加拿大女棋手中排名第一。暑假期间我将在中国，但其余时间我在加拿大，在多伦多大学攻读心理学和人类学学士学位。

I started playing chess since I was 4 and kept playing chess seriously until now. I played as a professional chess player in the Sichuan province team between 2016-2021 and played in the Chinese League One and other top tournaments. I won many prizes in youth tournaments. I won the champion of World Youth Chess Championship at 8 and won the WFM title. In the same year, I won the champion of Asian Youth Championship. And I won the champion of the Chinese Youth Chess Championship at 10. At 13 I won the title of Chinese National Master. In 2018 I won eighth place in the Asian Continental Chess Championships woman's group. In 2019 I won seventh place in the World Junior Chess Championship and the woman's second place in the "One Belt One Road" Chess Open. In the same year, I won the WIM title.
After I came to Canada in 2021, I mainly play for our Varsity, Hart House Chess Club. I represented our team won second place in the 2022 lvy League, second place in the 2022 Canadian University Chess Championship, top international team in the 2023 Pan Am Intercollege Chess Championship and first place in the 2023 Greater Toronto Chess League Team Championship.
In 2023, I went back to China and won first place in National Chess Team Championship representing Beijing Team.
Until now I am still an active player and planning to play more tournaments.

我从4岁开始下棋到现在。2016-2021年期间，我在四川省队作为职业棋手，参加了中国甲级联赛和其他顶级赛事。我在青少年比赛中赢得了许多奖项。我在8岁时获得了世界青少年国际象棋锦标赛的冠军，并获得了女子棋联大师的称号。同年，我获得了亚洲青少年锦标赛的冠军。10岁时我获得了李成智杯冠军。13岁时我获得中国运动健将称号。2018年我获得了亚洲国际象棋个人锦标赛女子组第八名。2019年我获得了世界青年国际象棋锦标赛第七名和 "一带一路 "国际象棋公开赛女子组第二名。同年，我获得了女子国际大师称号。
2021年我来到加拿大后，我主要为大学校队，哈特之家国际象棋俱乐部效力。我代表校队获得了2022年常青藤联赛第二名，2022年加拿大大学国际象棋锦标赛第二名，2023年泛美大学间国际象棋锦标赛的国际队第一名和2023年大多伦多国际象棋联赛团体冠军。
在2023年我回到中国，代表北京队赢得了全国团体赛的冠军。
我至今仍是一个活跃的棋手，并计划参加更多的比赛。

While I am mainly a chess player for most time of my life, I have intermittent experience teaching and reviewing games for children ranging from nearly beginner to 1800 FIDE rating over 5 years. I started to take teaching seriously this year, I currently have some students with around 1500-1600 FIDE ratings.

虽然大部分时间里我以下棋为主，但在5年多的时间里，我有断断续续的教棋和为孩子复盘的经验，学生范围从接近初级到国际等级分1800。从今年起我开始把教学当成一个正式的事业，目前我有一些国际等级分约为1500-1600的学生。

I am a solid player especially good at positional analysis and endgame theories. I am good at finding plans and chances in seemingly plain positions. I have a unique viewpoint of pawn structure and how to place pieces. And I often can draw or win in worse endgame positions. I play Queen's Gambit almost my whole life, know various lines and have a deep understanding. For black against e4, I play various lines including Taimanov, Caro-Kann and Berlin. Each one I played for years. Against d4, I play Slav and Queen's Gambit Accepted and have a good win rate. I also have a unique understanding of how to play against c4/Nf3.

我是一个风格平稳扎实的棋手，尤其擅长局面分析和残局理论，善于在看似平淡的局面中找到计划和机会。我对兵型和子力位置有独到的理解。而且我经常能在差了的残局中守和甚至获胜。我几乎整个棋手生涯都在下后翼弃兵，知道各种变化并有深刻的理解。作为黑方，对付e4我会各种开局，包括泰曼诺夫、卡罗康和柏林。每一个变化我都下了很多年。对d4我下斯拉夫和接受后翼弃兵，这两个开局我都有较高的胜率记录。我对应对c4/Nf3也有独特的理解。

I believe the most important thing in playing chess is interest, therefore I hope to inspire students' passion for chess through my teaching. More practically, I emphasize learning from one's own games and mistakes. Therefore I will first review students' games and find what they should improve the most, and make individualized teaching plans based on themselves. I also emphasize the importance of a solid theoretical foundation. Thus ideally, I will teach my students a whole system of middle game and endgame theory. Although it may not have an instant effect, this system will benefit students who have a long-term goal and want to have higher achievement in chess.

我认为下棋最重要的是兴趣，因此我希望通过我的教学来激发学生对国际象棋的热情。 在实际教学中，我强调从自己的对局和错误中学习。因此，我首先会复盘学生的对局，找出他们最应该改进的地方，并根据他们的情况制定个性化的教学计划。我还强调坚实的理论基础的重要性。因此在理想的情况下，我会教给学生一整套中局和残局理论体系。虽然可能不会有立竿见影的效果，但这个体系会让那些有长期目标，想在国际象棋上有更高成就的学生受益。
