Asaf is a very friendly yet serious chess teacher. Even I'm a beginner, I have never felt the slightest boredom or such a thing on his part, even though he is a high level player. he is not only dedicated to chess, but also to the transmission of his knowledge and experience. Every advice (that can also take the form of a question which falls at the right time) helps me a lot to improve and to start to get more and more sense of the game. I feel very honored to have the chance to learn from him. So it's very little to say that I recommend Asaf as a teacher.
Asaf has perfect English, and shares his chess knowledge readily in an egoless, Socratic and insightful way. My father and I are no experts but we really enjoyed our recent two lessons with Asaf. Highly recommended.
Asaf is the third coach I have reached for. And I'm planning to stick with him! He is excellent! He's knowledge of chess is obvious, which is likely true for all people of his level. What separate from the others is his ability to teach it. Other coaches I worked with were either difficult to understand or focused on tactics. I feel like I can focus on tactics on my own. With Asaf, you will learn a great deal on all aspects of the game. A real complete coach! Thanks Asaf!
IM Asaf Given has the wonderful combination of a vast knowledge of all areas of chess and the ability to convey it to those, such as myself, who are far below that chess level. This is no small matter as a good instructor needs both knowledge and teaching ability. Asaf has both in spades. In addition, Asaf is consciencious and dedicated teacher. It is a pleasure studying chess with him and I highly recommend him for anyone who wishes to advances his or her enjoyment of the game of chess!
Asaf provides weekly coaching of one hour to my twin boys (who are 7). He is an amazing coach.
Patient, knowledgeable and adaptable. He has taken their end game skills from a basic understanding to a much deeper awareness. Their tournament results have improved dramatically and they now represent their country at chess.
Asaf is the first coach I've hired. I told him that my goal was to improve from my current rating of 1515 to 1800. After 4 or 5 one-hour sessions I find his teaching skills enormously profitable. He has been helping me with an aspect of my game which I never took the time to improve, strategy in the middle game. Time seems to fly unnoticed during our Skype sessions. I'm considering lengthening our weekly encounters if that can be accommodated.
I have been taking lessons with Asaf for about a month now, and he is very professional and friendly. What I like most about Asaf's coaching style is how good he is challenging me with questions to help me think through my errors and improve my thought process. Using Asaf as my coach has been the best thing for my chess game I have done.
I've had 12 lessons with Asaf so far. Initially he talked with me and looked at recent games to identify weaknesses, which we then worked on. I've felt the benefits in my recent tournaments, spotting extra possibilities that wouldn't have occurred to me before. He's professional but also a very friendly guy and fun to learn chess with. Recommended.
Asaf has been coaching my daughter for the last 4-5 months with dedication and patience and a way in which her interest in the game grew very fast together with her playing level. אסף אימן את בתי בחודשים האחרונים בתשומת לב ומסירות ובדרך שהעלתה את העניין שלה במשחק כמו גם את רמתה.
Asaf has been my coach for over a year now, and every lesson i find myself learning a great deal, strategically and theoretically. My chess has improved considerably, and all while always laughing and having fun :)
My 8-year-old daughter has had a couple lessons with him (this is her account). So far he's mainly helped her to improve her strategic play in the middlegame. This can be a rather dry subject but Asaf is good at keeping her interested.
Asaf is excellent coach. He works with me and with my 7 years old kid together, online lessons by using skype and lichess. He explains thing clearly, analyze our games give us challenges and homework. His lessons are very interesting and enjoyable, even my 7years kid prefer to have a lesson with Asaf rather than going to play or watch TV. Harel, my son after having Asaf as a coach won already 2 cups, first place, among 20 other kid 6-10 years old.
In a month my lichess rating has improved 150 points! Asaf quickly recognized weaknesses in my game and has guided me in addressing them. I have had two previous coaches rated similar to Asaf but were not as personal or friendly as a teacher. I want someone who will take me to 2000+ and now I am confident that I have found that coach. Excellent coach, choose him!
Asaf distinguishes himself from other teachers in that he takes a personal interest in his students' growth. He reviews my games between lessons and prepares a mini-lesson before our sessions. He tailors his openings lessons around my strengths and weaknesses. Most importantly, I enjoy every minute of each session. In a few short weeks, I've feel that I have improved substantially.
Asaf was very quick to understand and assess my strengths and weaknesses. This is critical in the process of improvement. Asaf is extremely professional and always works with my schedule. I would recommend Asaf to anyone who seeks to improve their game.
We go through games together and he has helped me improve my openings significantly. Always enjoy our training sessions and get something new from them. Asaf is also very flexible to work with my crazy schedule. Would really recommend him to anyone looking to improve their game.
my main aim as a teacher is to find the right balance between making the lesson fun and educational. i am very open minded in finding the right method and the right resources for each student specifically.
my main skills in teaching: 1. building a solid and clear opening repertoire 2. tactical vision: how to spot tactical opportunities? 3. all aspects of strategic chess. 4. giving the students the right principles and general guidelines of chess.
my main aim as a teacher is to find the right balance between making the lesson educational and informative and making it fun and on good spirits. i uses Skype for communication, and typically using the study boards on lichess for the actual teaching and analyzing.
