The 44th Ghent Open is a 9-round Swiss tournament held from the 15th of July to the 19th in Ghent, Belgium.

At the request of many participants in the Ghent Open to have the tournament count for Elo-treatment, the organization has decided to set up an additional tournament, a Fide-Rated tournament. The players now have the choice, either they play as before in a tournament that does not count for Elo-treatment, or they participate in the new tournament, the Fide-Rated. Tempo and schedule are identical for both tournaments, the prize money is not.

The time control is 90 minutes for 40 moves with a 30-second increment beginning from move 1.
