Round 5 Recap of the 23rd European Team Championship

AnalysisChessTournament
Hello everyone, this is my first blog post! I will be covering a few games from Round 5 of the European Team Championship.

Without further ado, let's start with a very interesting game by Shirov today. Shirov was with the white pieces against Viktor Erdos and it was an important game for both teams.

I think that the key takeaway from this instructive masterpiece from Shirov is that you should always look at the small details before starting your attack. As seen in his game, he sacrificed his piece because
1. Black's pieces were very far away from the attack
2. There were several pieces (the knight on b8 and rook on a8) that didn't enter the game for 30+ moves!
3. Erdos was already starting to get low on time.

Something else that stood out to me today was that Slovenia 2 beat Slovenia 1! Slovenia 1 had 3 GMs and Slovenia 2 didn't have any GMs. There was one game that I liked by FM Vid Dobrovoljc who was on the Slovenia 2 team. He beat a 2560 FIDE GM from Slovenia 1.

Overall a nice attack by FM Dobrovoljc against the Pirc.
