DMACC Chess Club FAQ:

When and where do you meet?
Wednesdays (during the fall and spring semesters) at the Ankeny campus Student Center in Building 5 in the food court area. The boards are usually set up by 9 a.m. and people play until mid-afternoon or so.

How do I sign up for the club?
No need to formally sign up! Just come and play!

Who is the adviser?
That's me, Andy Langager, journalism professor. You can usually find me in the Campus Chronicle office in Building 5.

Do you have a Discord?
Yes, ask me for an invite!

What if I'm new to chess?
That's okay, we are open to players of all skill levels. We can even teach you how to play.

Do you ever hold tournaments?
We have in the past. We need some dedicated students to help organize it and see it through, though.

Can non-students play?
There's no requirement to be a student to play. If the club becomes more structured and elects members (president, secretary, etc.) they would need to be a student.

Do I need to bring a chess board?
Nope!

What is club etiquette?
Just use common sense. Don't be a sore loser, be a gracious winner, no cheating, don't comment on games being played (for example, don't point out that someone has checkmate), don't throw pieces around, yell, use profanity, etc.
Please don't refuse to play as white or black, either.

Do you have a team on lichess?
Of course! Here is a link.
