Is the Move a6 and a3 Great Opening Moves or Not?

OpeningStrategyAnalysis
Is a3 and a6 good? or horrible? Let's look!

Are you looking at the screen and thinking...WHAT! What does this guy know about openings that one sure ain't a good one! In principle you are correct. In general, avoid moves like these in tournaments.(Though if you are a clown like me you have played a move like this in an official event.) Don't be like Tony Miles ok? He was a grandmaster. You are not. (Unless u are and I wanna say "Hi" like a dorky fan)

Here's the game between Karpov and Miles:

Dang Karpov....how embarrassing.

Let's look at white's a3 :).

Comment in the forum what you think :D

When someone plays c4, e4, and d4...what do you think? Are you sitting there panicking cause you don't know any openings? Wishing you had something more extravagant in your repertoire? a6 is a great move for that.
For a move so vague it's pretty simple to learn.
Against e4 d4 d4 and nf3, it's pretty similar in all of them. It can turn into the Queens Pawn Opening, French, Jobava London....etc.

Let's take a peek! (g go to the whole study to see the whole thing)
