Chess PersonalitiesChess
Poem about Morphy's kind gesture some details that can help to understand the poem are as follows1) Morphy is highly respected by many chess players and one of the major factors why he deserves this appreciation is because he was a very dominant player ahead of his time 2) Morphy played in 1858 against the French Champion Daniel Harrwitz but he felt that the competition was not to the level that he desired 3) He gave up the prize money that he won from this event and agreed to sponsor the strong player Adolf Anderrson for a match 4) Andersson agreed to play him during the Christmas vacation since teaching was his vocation 5) This kind gesture gives an insight into Morphy’s Love for the game ! <<<<< Attached is the youtube link of the explnation of poem and recitation, Please check it out >>>>>

MORPHY AND HIS KIND GESTURE!

At 19, Morphy was qualified to be a lawyer,
But rules being a little tighter,
He had to wait till 21 to practice law,
This made him withdraw.
Leading him to see a little less,
Of everything but chess!

The results of his dedication was evident,
And the results were definitely relevant,
At the first American chess congress(1857),
Morphy crushed and dominated.
The game had a new star,
Glory was not very far!

Morphy played the French champion Daniel Harrwitz,
The match lacked any competition,
Morphy exercised complete domination,
Using his usual ammunition!

Morphy did not consider the tournament,
Of having any fighting element,
He gave up his prize money for a cause,
Proving the human he was.
He wanted to sponsor Anderssen to play him,
Hoping the fight would be to the brim!

Anderssen agreed to play during the christmas vacation,
Since teaching was his vocation
In the interim, Morphy played a lot,
Blindfolds and simultaneous being a part of the plot !
