Asian Amateur Online Chess Championships 2021 Part 2

ChessTournament
Underrated juniors, glitches and horrific blunders

Last night saw Rounds 4 to 6 of the Asian Amateur Online Chess Championships 2021.

What an awful playing session for me! Where to begin??

Firstly, I was a bit tired as games take place between 9 pm and around midnight New Zealand time.

Then, I had a bad head cold, which did not help me at all!

So, Round 4. Black vs an underrated Indian junior. I have enlarged my playing board. The game begins. My opponent moves. and I move. NO, wait, I can't move, I try a few times, waste some time, can't see the 'Call Arbiter' button, panic, message the local arbiter in our official breakout space, wait for his reply, refresh, get back in, and am able to move.

2 and a half minutes down in time in a 15 min plus 5 game...

I get into a position I know reasonably well, survive a few tricky moments and emerge a Bishop and some pawns up in an ending with Queens on. In time trouble (yes, see above) I walk into a perpetual check and draw...

Round 5, still annoyed by Round 4, I don't play my best against another Indian junior who plays well and beats me.

Round 6, feeling woozy, I let a good position slip and end up in a drawn opposite bishop ending. But I play a move out of sequence and let him Queen. No excuses, just bad play, but it was late and I was woozy, so an excuse lol. Another Singaporean junior.

So just 2.5 from 6 and needing 2/3 tonight to get a 50% score...not happy!
