Le Quang Liem (born March 13, 1991) is a Vietnamese chess grandmaster. He is the number 1 player in Vietnam and one of the top male players in Asia. He is the 2013 World Champion in Blitz content, the Asian Champion in 2019, the 2 times the Aeroflot Open Chess Championship, and the 3 times the HDBank International Chess Championship.
Quang Liem attended the Asian Chess Championship in Xingtai, China in June. After 9 rounds he was undefeated with 7 points (+5 =4) and was crowned champion, half a point ahead of the next group. [70] This is the first time a Vietnamese player has won the Asian men's individual championship. He then went on to win a silver medal in the blitz event in this tournament.[71]
In July, Quang Liem attended the World Open Chess Tournament. He was unbeaten at 7.5/9 (+6 =3).[72] After holding the black to draw the playoff game with the same player Jeffery Xiong, Quang Liem was crowned champion. This was his third consecutive championship and his first World Open title.[73]
In September, at the 2019 Chess World Cup, he lost to Levon Aronian in the fourth round, having beaten Korobov and Artemiev in the previous two rounds. This achievement is on par with his highest achievement at the 2013 World Chess Cup.
