The Zug-Zwang-Zone is a Lichess team for chess enthusiasts of all levels, whether you're just learning or you're a seasoned competitor. Founded by FM Zig_Zag_Zug_Zwang, our mission is to create a supportive and friendly environment where players can improve their skills, share insights, and grow their love for chess.

We are excited to announce the Zug-Zwang-Championship. It's a unique set of tournaments where each event is centered around a specific chess opening or structure, with a lichess study provided a few days before the tournament. These tournaments are not just about playing chess, but also about learning the openings and strategies!

Prizes & Awards

Podium Prizes: There will be cash prizes for the top 3 players.

Random Prize: A special cash prize randomly awarded to a player who completes the entire tournament.

Beauty Prize: An award for the most aesthetically beautiful game of the event.

Prizes will be paid via PayPal, and further details about prize distribution are provided below in the rules section.

Rules for Participation

Fair Play and Account Requirements:

• All players are expected to follow Lichess’s Fair Play rules. Account restrictions (such as rating minimums or play history) may be applied on a tournament-by-tournament basis to ensure fair competition and discourage unethical behavior.

Disqualification & Ejection:

• The organizer reserves the right to disqualify or remove any player suspected of cheating or violating tournament or Lichess rules. This can happen at the organizer’s discretion, with or without confirmation from Lichess.

Prize Eligibility:

All players who win prizes will be contacted via Lichess message to provide PayPal information for payment. Please note:

• Prizes are paid at least seven (7) days after the tournament to allow for Fair Play review and prize processing.
• Any Lichess accounts found to be in bad standing (i.e., flagged for cheating) are ineligible for prizes.
• Prizes not claimed within 30 days of the event will be considered abandoned.
