Positional training

1 member

The aim of this practice team is to understand how to win gradually by increasing one's position advantage (all low-rated games end because of one big tactical blunder/hanging pieces which undo the positional advantage gained throughout the game). So attempt will be made to squeeze out the tactical aspect of the game.

Following are the rules:

  1. The highest rated player will take black (unless there is a mutual understanding between players).

  2. It will be a casual games only.

  3. The player has the right to ask for atmost 1 takeback on every move (which could go upto two moves deep).

  4. In timed games(for eg 5+1), it is expected than the player grant his/her opponent extra time if he/she need it.

  5. Players are advised (infact highly recommended) to use lichess opening explorer until it reaches a unique game. The reason being one's chess understanding should not be dependent on his/her opening knowledge.

  6. Players are prohibited to use engine/engine evaluation. Although one is allowed to use physical/virtual board to calculate combination ahead (instead of using mental calculation). Again the reason is understand the why certain position are better than other and not who is better at mental calculation.

Although there is no restriction on ratings, low-rated players (U-2000) are especially encouraged (because high-rated players already have the required knowledge. Still everyone is welcomed.

So far I could only think of these rules, more will be added in future if the need arises
