1. e4 e6 2. Nc3 d5 3. Nf3 Nf6 4. e5 Nfd7 5. d4 c5 6. dxc5 Bxc5 (6... Nc6 { is
more common here, but the move played is fine too }) 7. Bd3 Nc6 8. Bf4 a6 (8... f6 { , which is also more commonly played }) 9. O-O Be7 10. Re1 b5 11. h4!? { Ryan said after the game he just "wanted" to play this move. He felt,
reasonably, that giving up a pawn was worth it to remove any black control over
his own dark squares } 11... Nc5 { First there's time to force white's pieces to
less active positions } 12. Bf1 b4 13. Ne2 Bxh4 { I'm still not sure if I should
have taken this pawn. It certainly doesn't lose, but I have to play carefully
now. } 14. Nxh4 Qxh4 15. g3 Qe7 (15... Qh5 { as suggested by
Ross Jackson after the game, e.g. } 16. Nd4 Qxd1 17. Raxd1 Nxd4 18. Rxd4 { and
the exchanges should favour black }) 16. Nd4 Bb7 17. Nxc6 Bxc6 18. Qg4! { This
move disconcerted me somewhat. I had not really considered it, but it is a very
logical move! } 18... O-O?? (18... Kf8! { would have been played almost instinctively! In this
case I can reasonably expect to free the rook with an h5 played at some
propitious time }) 19. Bg5 Qd7? (19... f6) 20. Bf6 g6 21. Qg5 { 1-0 Black resigns. } 1-0
