The following game was played at the World School U15 championship held in 2012. Deac was only 11 years old and his rating was sitting at 1913. His opponent was Stepan Sozin, rated 2123. --- We join the action on move 21. We can see that WHite has the bishop pair and nice queenside structure, while Black has some activity in the center and the active bishop on e3. White's queen is also somewhat weak and it is precisely what Black can exploit with the next accurate move. } 21... Ne4 { A very powerful move, basically forcing White to give up the bishop on f3 due to the threat of Nf2 that can't be stopped. } { [%csl Gf2][%cal Ge4f2,Re1e3] } 22. Bxe4 (22. Rxe3 { Of course, loses to } 22... Nf2+ { And the queen is gone. } { [%cal Rf2d1,Rf2h1] }) 22... Rxe4 { Now White has lost the bishop pair and the bishop on b2 is very passive, while Black's pieces are dominating the center. Things are still not lost, though, but the next move blunders it all away. } 23. Ra3 { Trying to attack the bishop and trying for some tricks. } { [%csl Re3][%cal Ra3e3] } (23. Qb3 { Objectively, moving the queen out of the way, attacking the bishop on e3 and then looking to get some Bc1, was the way to go. Black is better but ther eis a lot of chess to be played. } { [%cal Gb2c1] }) 23... Qg5 { Bringing the queen closer and preparing to swing the other rook. The problem for White is that now the rooks are not coordinated and there are some issues with the back rank. } { [%csl Ge3][%cal Ga8e8,Gg5e3] } 24. Rexe3 { This was what White had envisioned, but it fails tactically. } (24. Ra1 { It is quite significant that returning the rook is the engine's best move, which speaks volumes about White's entire idea. }) 24... Rxe3 25. Bc1 { White was probably relying on this trick to exchange some pieces and save the position, but overlooked a nasty counterblow. } { [%csl Re3][%cal Rc1g5,Ra3e3] } 25... Qg4 { Due to the weakness of the last rank, Black has this move, unpinning. Now the game is over as the queen can't be captured and Black will exchange rooks and remain a clean exchange up. Sozin continues playing for a while but was ultimately forced to lay down his arms. } { [%cal Rg4d1,Ge3e1,Re3a3] } 0-1
