An interesting scientific view on the topic, @Rapid167 #3, i disagree with the after-death part but the rest is interesting.
My answers to these questions from @MightyCreator #1 (i like this name):
What is consciousness?
According to http://www.truthunity.net/mbd/consciousness "Knowing that you know". "Con scious ness" - "with know ness". German: "Be wusst sein" - "being be-known". So, what is knowing? According to www.quora.com/What-is-knowing "To understand" - "under stand". German: "Ver stehen" - "For standing". I dont know if that helps, i like the definition.
Is there a soul behind consciousness?
Yes. Soul causes consciousness, life, everything. Therefore it must be nothing - the buddhist point of view.
Do I have a soul?
You are soul. You have a body. Your body is your biological machine which you use to interact with the world. The cases of Anencephaly mentioned by @Rapid167 are not soul-less, but soul-left. The biological machine is broken, the soul fist tries but then leaves the body, in order to incarnate in a better one, well that went wrong. The body dies.
The soul usually has not just one body and does not operate in just one world. It lives many different lifes in many different worlds and/or times in parallel. Sometimes it communicates with other lifes through dreams, but that does not happen often. The interdimensional constellations must be supportive. Most often dreams are subconscious workups of everyday life.
Does the soul die at death?
What is "living"? Particles which move around in space in an organized way. The soul is the "force" behind. It creates and moves and stops particles. It is not a particle, it does not move like one. It does not get lost, as well as force does not get lost. So the answer would be no. The soul is a static, the body is temporarily. it becomes too expensive to constantly repair the body, so the soul leaves it and incarnates in a new one.
Does consciousness exist after death?
Yes of course, everything gets saved. Based on this the soul develops deeper knowingness during its lifes.
Are heaven and hell concepts or places?
Heaven is white karma and hell is black karma, both located in their own dimensional room. Karma does not get lost between lifes. The soul collects karma, based on its actions. Eg. If you beat someone with no reason you get black karma, the other guy gets white karma. Black karma will drag the soul down, white karma drags it up.
Truthfulness, empathy and forgiveness support creation of white karma, and, through that, the uprising of the soul. They are golden rules.
If you see yourself acting unethical check yourself against those three to find out which is missing. If you have a problem with someone, check him/her against them to get a better understanding of him/her.
Ok, that was my point of view, have a nice evening, everybody.
