Phillidor's mate

Needless to say the obvious: 'He made a mistake, he was to capture with the king', we all know that. And in the end chess is a game about who makes the most mistakes in the game. He made a mistake, I took the chance and applied the mate. No need to quote the obvious, thanks.
#1 The mate you show... is called a "Smother[s] Mate" lichess.org/study/r6Rr62JH/0PfMpcYz I must say that your Queen check in the game...as you said was taking a "chance" that he wouldn't take with the King...Is not sound chess...You should reconsider that kind of thinking...Always assume that your opponent will find the best move. Here's your same mate...but forced. White to play...mate in two! :]
Disclaimer: The OP seems to need attention as evident by his posts. I suggest that we open a new forum room just for him.
Sargon... I wasn't aware that Philidor has some credit for the mate. Apparently...Lucena also gets some earlier credit in 1479. Thanks for pointing that out. ---Apologies to #1. --- I learned this mate many years ago, and never have been able to play it. Every time its looked like I might get the mate...It fell through. I think smother mates are one of the coolest mates...Their really fun to do, and you feel quite clever when you do. :]
