#1 - BughouseMASTER suggested that instead of 1 vs. 128, 1 vs. 65, 2 vs. 66 etc. should be played. What do you guys think?
Of course BughouseMASTERs suggestion is making more sense but why do we give the rating any relevance at all?
I agree with BughouseMASTER. Who'd even want to see 1st vs. 128th?
I think BughouseMASTERs suggestion is better. Number 65 will have (approximately) the same chance to win against 1 as 128 will have to win against 64.
As the #9 seed, I think I'd rather play #8 than #1.
I disagree with BughouseMASTER's suggestion. You'd be playing someone who's either 64 ranks higher or 64 ranks lower - that translates into pretty huge rating differences, so an almost definite win for the one who's 64 ranks higher. So basically seeds 1-64 will remain for the second round and 65-128 will be kicked out. It would just cut the list in half and keep the first part. What's the point in that, what problem does it solve?
For the seeds at the very top and the very bottom, the "1 vs. 128 system" will not be of much difference compared to the "1 vs. 65 system" (the very top seeds will win anyway), but for the 'middle seeds', the "1 vs. 128 system" makes more sense because there's still competition between them: for example, seed 64 vs. seed 65 is going to be a good match, and they both have chances for round 2. With the "1 vs. 65 system", it's seed 1 vs. seed 65 and seed 64 vs. seed 128 and it's pretty clear who will go to round 2.

agreed with fox. the 1 v 128 2 v 127 and so on system is in far more widespread use in the real world, so it must be proven to be more effective.
I also agree with Fox. I had the same decision when planning the atomic WC knockout.
The main benefit is that in the 1 v 128, 2 v 127 system every round there are a number of really close interesting match-ups. Going with 1 v 65, 2 v 66 etc, means each round every match-up is equally lop-sided.
If you are looking for fairness, then #1 vs. #65 is the way to go. Otherwise you reward people to get high ratings and high seeds bc they play the bottom pool every round and thus have the easiest path to finals.
