Will The Net Neutrality Repeal Affect Lichess?

@mdinnerspace at least the Dems dont want to increase inequality

last sentence is pretty damn true though- kinda sucks that we elect people to govern us yet they dont care about their voters

kinda like it sucks to have satan in the white house... oh well
hmmm... the topic is net neutrality, which probably belongs in off topic. The discussion has turned to bashing opposing personalities and viewpoints, not good. I only wanted to provide both sides of the issue without bias. There is a lot of misinformation, "fear-mongering" tactics by both sides in an attempt to gain public support. Previous regulations have been rescinded, only to be replaced by a new regulating body, the FCC, which at 1st glance has always expressed a less restrictive role over large corporations as AT@T and Comcast.
Was there ever an issue with "net neutrality" before 2015 when Obama had the new regulations put in place? Most "experts" would say not. They were "preventative" measures; in case the large providers ever took it upon themselves to start unfair practices and price hiking.
Will they now suddenly reverse course because some regulations have been eliminated? There are predictions of doom and gloom, discrimination of all type, woman, minorities, the poor, you name it, AT&T will soon own your baby and have access to your bank account. Controlling what you watch and see over the internet is only the 1st step. (So goes the hype.)

The large internet providers have expressed a desire to charge more $ for faster service. This makes the issue for lichess very real. The free access it provides to it's customers survives primarily because of a fast internet connection. If they had to pay more, maybe they'd be priced out of the market if an alternative provider is not available at an affordable price.
A thought just occurred:
I am wondering if the standing of lichess.org as such, might qualify it for for an exemption or possibly a discount if fees were increased by their provider? Maybe the likes of AT&T can be petitioned for exempt status by non-profit or .org entities and continue to pay the standard fee, but yet receive the faster services? This is something that could be put into regulation.
Of course. Any company big or small, the bottom line is profit. But big companies do fall. (they are aware of this and is why predictions of doom and gloom are too quick on the draw.) However, they sometimes overstep, make mistakes in evaluating public opinion; take undo advantage and the little guy often wins. New entrepreneurs innovate, provide better services, much like lichess as done for the chess community.
And I surfed over to lichess because I was tired of reading about politics....
But hey, while I'm here, can someone please explain to me why the government not regulating the internet is a problem?
@Jacob531 The problem is that companies such as Comcast, AT&T and all the other big internet providers can now charge as they please, and give a slower connection to those that can't afford to pay as much.
