A while ago I listen to an episode of Revisionist History and Hikaru was interviewed, he claimed Magnus would outperform him in classical and Blitz time controls but that he would overtake him in Bullet.
In Classical Hikaru says he calculates 5-6 moves per branch and around 3 branches, in bullet he is looking for moves that look good that aren't blunders and that he can play instantly. He claimed it takes Magnus slightly more time, and that is where his advantage lies.

Magnus is a one of a kind.. probably the best ever. But let's be real... Hikaru is a phenom and one of the few who *can* compete with Magnus.
