What is a good chess board size for playing side by side with lichess?

Hi all,

I’d like to play on lichess and use a physical board along side it. I mostly have two questions. What would be a good board size that would be comfortable to play on? (Considering I’ll be moving both white and black pieces on my own).

I guess just for reference I’m thinking about using my iPhone to display lichess / input moves, and then a physical board.

The other question I have is - what would be a good time control for this kind of play? I kind of feel like Rapid 15 + 10 would be too fast for this style. What do you think?

Any product recommendations are greatly appreciated regarding boards to use!

Thanks again!
As far as time controls go, 30+0 or longer is best for using a real board in tandem with the website. Honestly, if you can go longer I would say go for it and probably play with an increment. When I was playing like this, I also went to online only at the 10 minute mark to avoid flags.

As far as the board, best is what you feel comfortable with. The board I love using is this one:

www.amazon.ca/Handmade-Chess-European-Ambassador-Carved/dp/B08BZSLHNL/ref=sr_1_13?crid=39835D5JTJODX&dchild=1&keywords=chess+boards+canada&qid=1633740218&sprefix=chess+boards%2Caps%2C412&sr=8-13

She is a beast of a board, and I love her.

Also important, make sure you will be able to spin the board easily. You do not get a lot of time to change sides if you are not already set on the right color!

Hope this helps! :)
I would use increments. You need time to make the moves on the real board and smartphone. It is very frustrating to lose a game just because e. g. it has a long endgame.
Oh finally @AHeroRises and posts an interesting question for a change. It's completely subjective and that's why I like these more technical descriptions of how to set up your chess system. I suppose it depends on how serious you are for precision.

Personally I don't like the idea of an iPhone because it's too small to see and input moves smoothly

And it doesn't have all the Lichess features that you can get on a laptop with mouse.

So, just dreaming here, Ideally a big screen on a standup desk .

I'd use a full size board with 55 mm squares and triple weighted pieces. Of course I'm talking Staunton Chessmen designed by John Jaques and patented in 1849, as if there is any other for tournament play.

This is all assuming we are even allowed assistance of a physical chessboard and pieces.

it's probably allowed but it's kind of a grey area too.

I assumed that the only assistance allowed was the arrows and circles. And I don't know how you would even use that feature on an iphone.
If u can buy DGT board..pls buy that..its so good..it's a technical board..but the problem is its so expensive if u can afford it u can buy it..if u can't afford it try buying a silicon/vinyl board its so good, comfortable and also easy to bring anywhere!
