Playing OTB chess tournament for the first time

Hello,
I'm going to be playing my first OTB tournament soon, on 31st October.
Please give me some tips on how to be able to see and calculate moves OTB, Rules, and basically whatever is needed to know before first OTB tournament.
Also, please do tell me how to control nervousness and excitement and does sleep and eating factor matter.
Thank you in advance

#1: Sleep Does Matter; A Good Sleep Can Easily Mean A Difference Of 300+ Points Of Perfomance.

Eating Matters As Well; Things To Not Eat Before An Important Tournament Include: Sugar, Junk-Food, And Other Un-Healthy Food.

To Calculate And See The Board, Do Regular Physichal Excersice, Stay Hydrated, And Try To Practice On An OTB Board Before The Tournament.

Be fresh and try to be calm and composed throughout.
Don't play or experiment with new openings. Stick to the opening you play with ease. Revise your opening couple of times before tournament.
Don't panic when you blunder, as your behaviour would be noticed by opponent, rather try to calm yourself.
Also, pay attention to opponent's behaviour as well and if your opponent gets tensed or worried then better look why in the position and take time at that moment as probably your opponent might have blundered.
The officials provide scoresheet. Better use it and write moves played from both sides to analyse the game later.
After the conclusion of game, it's nice to say 'Congratulations' to opoonent if you lose and 'Well Played' if you won.
All the best!
By the way, I played my first OTB tournament 4 years ago. I have played 7 OTB tournaments till now.
Make sure you know how to record a chess game. You most likely will be required to do that. It is all too easy to get out of practice for that. Good luck!

Leave your phone at home! Even if you turn it off, it isn't really off, and might make some noise - like a low power beep or something. You don't want to get an automatic loss for that kind of thing.

Since you are not yet a professional player and because this is your first OTB tourney I would focus on the fun and joy element and not take things super serious. Enjoy the benefits of OTB (I like to stroll around when my opponent is thinking, visiting the chess book stall, looking at other boards, chat with friends, or make new friends).
The post mortem analysis is for me a very important and pretty often fascinating part of the game.
You spend a few hours with another human being at the chess board without talking. After the game the thinking part can be compared. Was the opponent really afraid of 25.Rb1 and did they see that deep trap or were they lucky or was their intuition right ?

By focusing on the fun part, and not putting the goals too high, possible disappointing results may be taken more easily.
Once you get used to playing in OTB tourneys more often, then setting higher goals can be easier.

Don't worry, be happy ;) Have fun ! & good luck !
Other users have already said almost everything you need to know before your first tournament. I would add that you shouldn't hurry with your moves, and don't underestimate anyone. Be respectful to others, shake hands before and after the game, thank them for the game (optional), and try to make as less noise as possible in order to keep the silent atmosphere in the playing hall. You have perhaps finished with your game, but others might still be playing. Do not stress yourself during the games, that will only make you play worse. Good luck and have fun!
