Show the end result on the chessboard.

When I finish a game during an OTB chess tournament, I usually place the pieces back on their starting position and then place the winning colored king in the center of the chess board. I now know better. It should also go on the winning central color. What I did not know is that both kings should be placed in the center. I don't like that Idea because it is not as clear as leaving the winning King on the central winning color.

I read in a chess competition rule that both kings should be placed diagonally to each other, on the central squares. If the opponent using the black pieces won, then both Kings are placed on the central black squares. If the player using the white pieces won, both kings are placed on the central white squares.

Basically, both kings are touching diagonally on the same central winning color so that anyone that was following the match, can discover the end result even if the players are no longer playing the game.

How is it done or could be done using PC connected electronic chess boards?

So how do we leave the chess pieces for an OTB draw?
As far as I know this done when using DGT boards to indicate resignation. Pressing kings on e4/d5, software gets an 1:0, kings on d4/e5 0:1 and e4/e5 and d4/d5 a draw is announced and entered in the software.

Just pressing one king in the center could be considered a regular move.

PS: there are no written rules how to leave the board - strictly speaking it's the arbiter's or organisator's business. Tidying up should be normal though, sure.

With the above info from post #2, a draw would be represented OTB, if both Kings are placed in front of each other, on different colored central squares.

Thanks.

It's better to put before the kings in the center indicating the result and then re-arrange the pieces.
If you do it the other way round, the DGT board could be fooled by a move of the pieces what is legal by chance. (If at the end of the game, any king are near the center of the board could also get the indication and a move mixed up, though it's more unusual).
This is the explanation of some strange last moves what are seen in certain internet broadcasts.
