Black Lives Matter

@VWBeetle “per one million of the murderers race“ Lol, I wonder why the data looks like that if using such a dumb metric.
@lichess

Hope you have seen your virtue signaling move has turned a sizeable chunk of your community into a dumpster fire. We come here to play chess not to see "Black Lives Matter" stuck in our face. It among other political movements are always shoved in our face elsewhere and this is the last place we want to see it. Congratulations on making a forum in a chess site talk about something not chess-related (except for the repetitive black-moves-first joke).

No offense intended, but this is basically a kiss-a** move. Everytime a riot and world-wide protests starts about something are you gonna have "full support" for it so you guys don't get chased down by the mob? Despicable...
Open source is politics, and Lichess.org is open source.

Black Lives Matter is a great statement, it is about human rights, like open source. Share knowledge, learn and teach one another. This is fundamentals that emphasize we are all humans. I love that Lichess commits to this positive and important message.

Only issue, and possible problems with Black Lives Matter is that it is identity politics, which opens for responses like "All Lives Matter" - duuh, do ya thinkt? The last one supposedly is a caption for haters... We also have identity politics on gay rights, trans, all minorities with problems... It is not to say their problems are not important. Democracies are measured best on how it takes care of minorities. My issue with identity politics as I see it, is that the position is flawed when advocates and politicians stake their claim and build careers on a notion that they are victims. I have yet to meet people who are victims all of the time?

"Lichess is not a political organisation and we feel that equality should not be considered a political issue but a fundamental right."

Unfortunately rights can be taken away by governments, so yes in a world where equality is a right and government dictates what rights certain people have, it is politics. And the Black Lives Matter movement is a political movement, not an equality issue. You supported the movement then the issue. We honestly didn't need to know and we automatically assume an association that lets anybody join their community and don't have obnoxious rules supports equality. In the original post, you said this: "The Lichess team stands with the Black Lives Matter movement and supports the ongoing protests against police brutality in the United States and globally." You didn't state that you support equality alone and that this movement is for it, no you said you support this movement and the ongoing protests against police brutality. So you support the burning of buildings of minorities by minorities? Those are parts of these protests.

"...will start to instigate the real changes that are necessary for a just and equal world to exist."- Sure, lets do something that no one has tried before with any other movements within their nation. Like corporations like you know what's "just and equal" for everybody else.

"Stick to chess, no politics" -Yes, couldn't be said any better. I don't mind if y'all in charge go do it on your own personal time outside of lichess, but stuff like this makes me and others want to find another chess site to play on.

Also, identity politics are crap. How about we stop with this whole "identity" thing and just look at each other as humans for once???? Maybe that could help by defining people by how they think and act (in professional and public regards) and not how they look and privately act????
The statement “black lives matter” is an OBJECTIVE statement (or it should be and if you don’t think that you’re a racist). This is a movement which has gained particular prominence and lichess has chosen to support it, because it is based on an OBJECTIVE, not political, statement. There will be countless others like George Floyd who have never been seen on the news, never gained the fame that this case did. And unlike George Floyd, there was no justice for them. The people behind this ruthless act got away with it. How often does this happen to white people? Black people are the victims of such attacks, and as such we should support them especially right now, as they are being oppressed. No life matters more than another, it just seems that in some places black lives do not matter as much to some people, and I think it is great that lichess has chosen to support black people especially while they are the victims of racist attacks like this.
if someone says white lives matter, how does it sounds? think about it..
