Lost on time when opponent could not mate

Hello.
On game lichess.org/W8lESPZ35vVk I lost on time when opponent could not mate me. I am aware of a borderline position with my king in a corner, where white could mate with king and single bishop, e.g. black with its King on a1 and its pawn on a2 and white with with its king on c2 so its lone white bishop could mate anywhere along the a1-h8 diagonal, but in my game, my pawn is on the g column and my king could always escape. Am I missing something or is this server error?
Thanks
"6.9 Except where one of Articles 5.1.1, 5.1.2, 5.2.1, 5.2.2, 5.2.3 applies, if a player does not complete the prescribed number of moves in the allotted time, the game is lost by that player. However, the game is drawn if the position is such that the opponent cannot checkmate the player’s king by any possible series of legal moves."

FIDE Laws of Chess: http://fide.com/fide/handbook.html?id=208&view=article

Since there's a legal sequence of moves that would lead to a checkmate, the game is a win for white.
The American rule supercedes the FIDE rule.

The American rule states that "if it wasn't going to happen, we aren't going to give it to you."

The justification for said rule being "We don't want to make a mockery of chess."
#4 By any chance does USCF publish their rulebook online for free? If they don't, how are players expected to learn their rules?
Why do people always forget that pawns can be promoted when it comes to these "Is it a draw?" situations?

Even if you don't see a sequence like the one in #2, there's always the trivial way to (under-)promote the pawn for additional mobility and then have it block a square for a corner mate.
